Overview of organization

The Body Donation Program at the Department of Anatomy, S. Nijalingappa Medical College is designed to facilitate the donation of human bodies for medical education, training, and research. Such programs are critical for medical students and professionals to gain a thorough understanding of human anatomy and surgical skills. 

Administration information

Chairman of the body donation society is Chairman of BVV Sangha Bagalkot.

 Registration Process

  • Individuals willing to donate their bodies after death need to register with the department of Anatomy or associated body donation organization.

  • The registration usually involves:

    • Filling out a consent form.

    • Submitting personal identification documents.

    • Informing family members about the decision to ensure smooth procedures post-mortem.

    • 2  family members signature as a witness

    • Photographs of donors  

3. Post-Death Procedure

  • The donor’s family contacts the medical college immediately after the donor’s death.

  • The body is transported to the college with arrangements facilitated by the college 

  • A death certificate from a registered medical practitioner is required.

4. Usage of Donated Bodies

  • Bodies are preserved using embalming techniques for educational use.

  • Specific areas of research or teaching requirements may dictate how the body is utilized.

  • Ethical guidelines are strictly followed to ensure respect and dignity for the donor.

5. Legal and Ethical Framework

  • Governed by the Anatomy Act of the respective state, which regulates the donation and use of human bodies.

  • The program ensures compliance with ethical standards, including donor confidentiality and proper handling.

6. Support and Memorial Services

  • The department holds memorial services or recognition events to honor the contribution of body donors.

  • A donor card and certificate of appreciation will be issued to registered donors.

7. Awareness Campaigns

  • The college organizes awareness programs, seminars, or community outreach activities to encourage body donation.

  • Collaboration with local organizations and media to disseminate information about the program.
