Overview of the department 

The Department of ENT and Head and Neck surgery at S Nijalingappa Medical College was started in 2002

 Our Specialty deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the ear, nose and throat. Department also deals with management of diseases related to skull base and head and neck.

Presently students are trained in our department during phase 2 and phase 3 part 1 of  MBBS.

Department is well equipped with state of the art equipments and infra structure to train students professionally and ethically.

Staff in the department are skilled in various sub specialty of ENT.

Post graduate course was started in 2011. Presently we have intake of 4 MS postgraduates per year.

 The out-patient department has facility for consultation (4 consultation rooms), for diagnosis of various ailments.

 Department of audiology and speech pathology deals with individuals with defective speech and hearing, Various equipments are available to assess their disability and treat them, qualified audiologist and speech pathologist are available for the same.

 A well equipped minor OT including diagnostic Endoscopic unit, Otomicroscopy and also Temporal Bone Lab to facilitate PG Teaching is available in OPD.

The Department of ENT has fully equipped ENT OT with operating microscope, microsurgical instruments and a complete functional endoscopic sinus surgery unit. We have well-experienced staff both for undergraduate and Post graduate teaching.

The department is also conducting specialty clinics like Cancer clinic, Vertigo clinic, headache clinic and hearing evaluation of disabled once a week.

Recently we have started Cochlear Implant surgery for the needy patients of North Karnataka under Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, Govt of Karnataka. Eligible patients are operated totally free of cost under this scheme.

Already 7 patients have undergone cochlear implantation surgery under this scheme.

  • Provide high quality treatment to patients coming to ENT department wit ENT related ailments
  • To follow best standards of practice for patient care.
  • Provide adequate infrastructure for teaching both UG and PG students.
  • Build learning environment for students
  • To build competence in students with constant upgradation of latest knowledge in the medical field.
  • Train students to face profession with confidence, courage and compassion.

  • Journal club, seminars and case presentations are conducted weekly.
  • Interdepartmental teaching is conducted regularly.
  • Department has conducted CME and Workshops regularly.
  • Department has conducted ENT state conference AOIKCON-2017  in September 2017.
