ANATOMY

Overview of the department 

The Department of Anatomy at S. Nijalingappa Medical College is committed to providing a solid foundation in the human body structure, crucial for understanding its function in health and disease. As a core subject for medical education, anatomy plays a vital role in shaping competent medical professionals.

The department has a rich history with Dr. V N Kulkarni serving as the first Head of department (HOD), who laid the strong foundation of the Anatomy in 2002. Followed by Dr A V Angadi’s tenure, in the year 2005 Dr.G B Rairam took over as the HOD. With his visionary leadership he played a pivotal role in developing one of the academically strongest department by enhancing its infrastructure and fostering environment.

From 2014 Dr. Sanjeev I Kolagi became the head of the department. Currently under his leadership the department of Anatomy has reached new heights with support of other faculty members. Now the department has several landmark activities including soft embalming, Rang-Anat, NISSL workshop, Musculo-skeletal workshop (MSK)etc. The department has Advanced cadaveric microsurgical laboratory and a well curated Anatomy museum. These workshops and facilities have provided invaluable hands on experience to UG, PG students and faculty all over India enhancing their understanding of complex anatomical concepts and surgical techniques. We are dedicated to nurturing students who are not only academically proficient but also compassionate health care provider with deep understanding of human Anatomy.

Teaching

Anatomy department engages interactive lectures, small group teaching and discussions, demonstrations, early clinical exposure, tutorials, linker sessions, DOAP seesions in histology laboratory,dissection practicals  and student seminars for  undergraduate and Postgraduate students

Assessments

 Anatomy department conducts part completion tests, three internal assessment examinations and feedbacks

Research

Anatomy department offers ICMR student research programme, RGUHS short term research programmes.

Training

Anatomy department train students at various levels including under graduate and post graduate students  in basic human Anatomy. Anatomy department is also involved in Basic life support (BLS) and Comprehensive Emergency Care and Life Support (ECLS) workshops and Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS)

  1. Mucin histochemistry of developing human respiratory tract of fetus in comparism with adult normal and malignant conditions
  2.  Computed tomographic study of morphometry of sella turcica in north Karnataka region
  3. Multidetector computer tomographic morphology of olfactory fossa and its correlation with body mass index in North Karnataka region
